How to Choose Flowers by Occasion

A quick reference for picking the right blooms, colors and size for the moment you're marking.

When in doubt, choose a color rather than a flower. Color carries most of the message, and it lets our designers use whatever is genuinely freshest that morning.

Birthdays: color first

Bright and mixed — gerberas, roses, sunflowers, seasonal blooms. Design around their favorite color and it reads as personal even if you couldn't name a single flower they like.

Anniversaries and romance: roses, but not only roses

Red roses are the classic. Garden roses, peonies and ranunculus in blush and cream feel more modern and often look more expensive at the same price point.

New baby: soft and small

Pastels, low scent, and a size that fits on a nightstand. Parents have nowhere to put a large arrangement in the first weeks.

Thank you and congratulations: bright and generous

Sunflowers, tulips and mixed seasonal bouquets. Size matters more than rarity here — a full arrangement communicates the sentiment.

I'm sorry: understated

Skip red. White, lavender and soft pink in a simple vase read as sincere rather than grand.

Sympathy: white, cream and calm

Lilies, white roses and chrysanthemums are traditional. Match the form to the destination — easel or spray for a service, vase or plant for the home.

Common questions

What flowers work for someone whose taste I don't know?
A mixed seasonal bouquet in their favorite color. It's the safest choice and always looks intentional.
Can I request specific flowers?
Yes — tell us when you call. Some blooms are seasonal, and we'll say so on the phone rather than substitute silently.
